Looking through with new eyes

Goodmorning!
Last Sunday´s messagewas about the benefits of going on a mission trip. One of theose benefits was that it gives us a whole new perspective on life.
We have been in Mexico only 3 full days. yet our eyes have been opened to see a way of life that is very different from our own.
Our team is comprised of generations that have grown up with tv, stereo, computers, Ipods and a whole host of other gadgets. We have multiple closets and dressers overflowing with clothes. Food is available to us anytime of the day. WHen our spacious homes begin to feel clostrophobic we simply hop in the car for a day trip away.
And yet we are a people that are unhappy, unsatisfied and often ungrateful for all that God has blessed us with.In the tiny part of the world known as Sabinas Hildalgo, Mx. some of those material things exist. Highschool musical was playing on the tv, adults carry cell phones and among the rich class they enjoy as much of the world as they can get. But for the majority of people here they are materialy poor yet rich in love and generosity.

This kids here at the orphanage are so happy to have us here. They are easy to love and give their affections rack to us readily. While they are grateful for the material things we may bring to them they are more grateful for our friendship.

Perhaps if the church of Christ really truly understood his extravagant love for us, we too would lavish that love on others.
Yesterday was a long and full day. We painted, helped with cememt work and put up playground equipment. In the afternoon we went to a waterpark and had a marvelous time swimming and playing with the kids. Last evening we had our Childrens ministry outreach. We didn´t realy know where we would be doing this abd things were pretty chaotic, but in the end there were over 60 kids there most of them from the neighborhood where we we held the event.

We are trusting God to use that event to produce spiritual fruit in the lives that we touched in in us.
In His Service!

  2. This is Emily Baltzer writing. I´m going to comment on a few things that happened on July 17. I´m in a couple of pictures, but most of you probably couldn´t put my name to my face, so I´ll help you out a little. The first picture I´m in is of me and a couple of girls at the swimming pool. I´m pulling them around because they wanted to find Travis. (They wished him a happy birthday by squirting him with their water gun. Probably not the way he would´ve liked to celebrate, but they liked it.)
Another picture is me at the carnival. I´m wearing the orange shirt. This was during our skit. I was playing the part of the pig farmer. I think the kids really enjoyed it.

Thank you all for you prayers. I´ve really enjoyed coming to Sabinas again!

  3. Hola! This is Kyle writing. This trip has been wonderful and we are all extremely grateful for your support.

We done a variety of things such as painting, digging ditches, and moving rocks. (You tell from the picture on the 16th who is doing the work here. I´m busy painting that wall while Travis and Monte are goofing off.) But seriously, this whole team is a joy to work with and that makes everything we do fun. Last night we had our VBS extravaganza and it turned out that we did it at a house right on the street. We were surprised, but God worked it for good. People who just happened to go by on the street were attracted and I think we got more people than if we had done it at a church like we thought. Travis and I did the soccer game in the alley beside the house. Even though the alley was filled with trash, it worked just fine and the kids had a great time.

Ok, I shall curb my verbosity now. Thank you all again for your prayers!

    Kyle

  4. Hi this is Heidi. We´ve all been having a really great time down here. At night we sleep outside and the breeze helps keep us cool. The food is amazing, I´ve gotten to try avacado and cactus fruit for the first time as well as consuming papaya and mango for breakfast one day. So far I feel like I´ve done no work and all play, because it is so much fun to work together as a team. Also, the kids often come watch us and so we have great Spanish-learning sessions. Most of them know a little English, and most of us know some Spanish so we are generally able to comunicate alright. Today, we learned the word for burp - erupto. I thought it was quite appropriate. God has been really good to us and we have had no major sicknesses, and seem to be able to function almost normally on what little sleep we receive.
    That´s all for now folks.
    Heidi

  5. This is Sheri Baltzer. Our time down here has been amazing. Even though it is hot here it is very satisfying to come down and work with the people here. The kids are amazing and they truley love Jesus. Mario and Blanca demonstrate His love to them every day by providing a safe place for them to live.

Everbody is so appreciative of our being here and helping out any way we can and I am grateful to the Lord for giving us this opportunity to come down again. Our family was here 2 years ago and the kids remember us and we are building relationships with them that will last an eternity.

    Thank you for your prayers.

    Sheri
